Ashton goes Conkers

Ashton held the 44th World Conker Championship on the 12th October, with over 300 participants aiming to shatter through to the top three. People from across the globe gathered in the small village near Oundle, motivated to be crowned conqueror of the world.

Following a tough and tiresome few hours the victor of the championship claimed the bragging rights. The bookies favourite, Ray Kellock, 62, of Rushden took the men’s title, and Amy Farrow, of Essex, came out champion of the ladies’ title.

Commenting on his magnanimous triumph, Mr.Kellock put the win down to his “Kinetic Energy Theory”.

Manchester United Overcome Impressive Posh in 2-0 Win

Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough United were by no means daunted by the European Champions’ arrival at London Road for a pre-season friendly. The Posh played impressively for the full 90 minutes in a match that will be firmly in the minds of Peterborough fans for years to come. On what was a prestigious occasion in the club’s history, the Posh created sufficient chances to win the game comfortably. In the end, though, the quality of the Red Devils clearly showed and it was this finesse that enabled them to win the game.

Oundle Rugby’s Promotion Hopes Vanish

Realistically, any promotion hopes disappeared in this local derby game against fellow promotion contenders Deeping on the 16th February. However, a creditable performance was shown by many Oundle players and indeed Oundle finished the stronger. The damage came in the first twenty minutes when the home side ran in three tries as Oundle failed to get into the game. Oundle’s problems were then consolidated by the loss of scrum half Daniel Braybrook through a shoulder injury. Continued…
