A14 Crash

by Amery Rodrigues, October 7, 2009

A ten car pile up caused the A14 to be closed eastbound between J10 and J11 on Tuesday 29 September. This caused great delays and frustration to those who were left unaware of what had happened. The crash took place at approximately 2.45pm near Finedon and Islip. A14 crash

It was a blue LGV carrying a steel container that collided with stationary traffic and caused the ensuing chaos. The driver of the LGV, has been charged with dangerous driving. The collision involved much smaller vehicles such as a Peugeot 206, a Ford Focus and a Mercedes.

Of the six people were badly injured, two were sent by air ambulance to Coventry. The other four were taken to Kettering General Hospital to be treated. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The fire services also attended the crash to help with the remaining cars.

The huge delays caused much inconvenience and left many cars stranded on the A14 for hours. Eventually the police diverted traffic off the A14 onto other roads. Fortunately the junctions were reopened at about 7.10 pm. Reckless driving of the LGV put people in grave danger and also caused great inconvenience for other motorists as they sat in stationary traffic.
