Will Oundle Beat the Drop?

by Hamish Temporal, June 10, 2009

Oundle Town Football Club has had a season that has been full of frustration. If the side are to have any hope of playing in the Peterborough Premier League next season, the team and their fans must keep up their spirits.. At the moment Oundle lie third from bottom, just four points above Peterborough Sports. They are safe for now, however; there can be no complacency, otherwise Oundle Town could be playing in Division 1 with the likes of Werrington Town and Stilton United.

Oundle have had a few embarrassing defeats this year such as their demolition by Ramsey Town at 7-0. However, Ramsey has debatably been the best team in the league this year. On the other hand, Oundle have also picked up some valuable points this year at home. A 1-1 draw against Levrington gave Oundle hope for survival. John Watson was the man to thank for this vital result. But from now on they must make sure that every single game of the season is a hard fought battle.

Even though relegation looms over Oundle, the team seems quietly confident about staying safe. This is especially the case with manager Dan Dobson. After an enthralling game with Moulton Harrox, which saw the manager play as a fill-in goal keeper, he reflected on their position close to the relegation zone. “Ourselves and Peterborough Sports both have the same three teams to play – Whittlesey, Rutland and Pinchbeck – and if we can play like we did at Moulton, we should be able to pick up the odd point.” It was Ronald Osker and Rob Lincoln who netted for Oundle in this game. The pair have been on good form this season and I’m sure that the whole team hopes that this will continue.
