Police in the area have stepped up their search for Gillian Merrick and are continuing their efforts to return her safely home. Mrs Merrick who disappeared in the early hours of New Year’s Day is still missing after over a week of searching. In the last few days the search for the missing mother of two has been heightened after receiving additional support from a specialist dog team, a police helicopter and over 50 volunteers who all joined in to aid the search. As the investigation continues Police have extended their searches to the surrounding villages of Oundle after their preliminary search of Barnwell Country Park and the land surrounding Oundle yielded no results.

Two Oundle residents from Oundle School attended the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference in Orlando, Florida on 29th November.
As part of the conference, Jacob Dillarstone, 16, and Nicolas Kernick, 17, participated in the Future Leader’s Pavilion, in which secondary school students from all over the world demonstrate technical projects. This is the third time Oundle has taken part in this prestigious event. Nicolas and Jacob’s project was based on the mathematical concept of the “Queuing Theory”, which looks at cost efficiency against speed of process.

On the 11th October 2008 five cadets from Prince William School set off to Kathmandu on an expedition to reach Everest Base Camp. Their mission was to raise money for the well known charity ‘Help for Heroes’, founded to help those who have been wounded in Britain’s current conflicts.

Oundle School was awarded a Bronze Eco-Schools award this September, under the guidance of a newly formed environmental Action Team. The school applied for the award based on its pre-existing achievements, since it had already fulfilled all the necessary criteria. For example, the school runs a successful recycling scheme, with collections made at least monthly.
