Mayorial Matters

At the age of 41, Paul King, may be one of the youngest mayors to serve the town of Oundle. He attended Leicester and Warwick University and now works as a senior management consultant in the commercial sector. His professional work involves engaging with dysfunctional teams and helping them to change, not unlike the format in Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares. His style is that of a reformer, he is happy to initiate change and revitalise organizations.

He is very keen on technology and values online polling of public opinion. He would like to set up a new Town Council website with interactive pages to facilitate community participation. Linked to this is his desire to understand public opinion and the needs of people locally. His ambition to increase attendance at council meetings will raise the profile of the council, and encourage people to engage more with local issues.

Ashdown throws a Paddy

Oundle residents had the opportunity to meet one of Britain’s leading statesmen at an event hosted by the Oundle Festival of Literature in March.

Described as a “great peace maker”, Paddy Ashdown was until recently the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the Oundle Festival of Literature he delivered “bleak and bitter news” to speak on the sombre issue of conflict.

Fairline grows within and beyond Oundle

Fairline, one of the most successful businesses in Oundle, is planning to bring on stream an £8 million expansion of its production facilities in 2008.

A new product development facility of approximately 90,000 square feet plans to go into operation within this year. The original development department and in-house design at Fairline’s Oundle headquarters on the other hand, will also be expanded into a larger all in one office block.

Let’s Move to…?

On March 22nd, Oundle was reviewed in the Guardian for the ‘Lets move to…’ section of the newspaper. It is always exciting to have one’s town featured in the national press, but when it is a snapshot view, there is a risk of bad press. Although the majority of the article was positive, it caused a bit of a stir, with many people not in agreement with some views that were made.
