Realistically, any promotion hopes disappeared in this local derby game against fellow promotion contenders Deeping on the 16th February. However, a creditable performance was shown by many Oundle players and indeed Oundle finished the stronger. The damage came in the first twenty minutes when the home side ran in three tries as Oundle failed to get into the game. Oundle’s problems were then consolidated by the loss of scrum half Daniel Braybrook through a shoulder injury. This meant that full back Toby Billingham switched to half back. Lee Green got Oundle on the score sheet with a penalty before Deeping added a fourth and decisive try. After half time Oundle were chasing the game but could not break through a solid Deeping defence apart from a second Lee Green penalty. Prior to this game Oundle had come off the back of a high-scoring 42-23 victory over Biggleswade. Oundle are now focused on closing out the season well and preparing to relauch their promotion in the 2008/09 season.
