Oundle Primary School has introduced school dinners, decades after the school had converted the kitchen into a class room. The head teacher, Janet McMurdo, said that the school introduced the scheme after parents began to ask why school dinners were not available. A questionnaire was sent out and it was discovered that a large number of parents did want their children to have school dinners because it was more convenient than making a packed lunch every day. Parents, children and staff all think the scheme is wonderful.
The children are given a choice of a cooked meal or packed lunch, which they are allowed to vary from day to day. The meals, which are catered for by Kingfishers Catering in Corby, offer a wide choice each day. It caters for allergies, vegetarians and all food preferences, offering healthy food and a balanced diet. Children can choose from a main course or vegetarian option, vegetables or salad with a carbohydrate a jacket potato with filling. They can also choose from a choice of pudding or fresh fruit and drink.

This December, as Oundle prepares for Christmas, 16 school pupils from Oundle School will be travelling “over hill and over dale” to Shanghai as part of an exciting venture.
The pupils, selected from those in the Sixth Form taking the Theatre Studies A2 level course, will be led by Kathryn Francis and Simon Kent. They will perform William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at The Stahl Theatre on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of December before flying to China to put on another three performances at the Jinyuan High School in Shanghai.

On the 22nd of October 2007 Kevin Murphy died suddenly at the age of 49. Kevin lived in Oundle with his wife Maureen, son Oliver and daughter Chloe.
As well as being a family man, Kevin also loved football and was a passionate Leeds United Fan. He started coaching at Buckingham Junior Football Club and coached at Oundle Town Junior Football Club from 1999 to 2007. Kevin’s hard work was appreciated at the Junior Football Club and his sessions were full of humour but also full with a real sense of purpose. His ability to bring out the best in his players was demonstrated when his team won the league under his leadership at Oundle.
He attended the Thomas Danby Bakery College in Leeds before beginning work in Edinburgh. Due to career progression, he lived in several different places, including Chester and Sussex, working at Unilever and at Kerry Foods and Moguntia. In 1998 he was head hunted for British Sugar, which brought him to Oundle.

On Friday the 7th of September the Duke of Gloucester opened the long awaited new science block for Oundle School.
For the past year and a half, Oundle residents have watched the cranes towering over the building site and have seen the walls slowly, but surely rise with a mixture of anticipation and perhaps apprehension. Now the SciTec Complex, which comprises 16 chemistry and biology laboratories, an observatory and an exhibition space, is completed. Certainly the first students to be using the building this year are not disappointed with it: “The block has been completely modernised and all of the science students are impressed with the design,” says Head Girl Emily Mitchell, 18.
